| The joy of imagining what
can be woven into a poem or short story and the thrilling
anticipation of possible publication spur student writers
in remarkable ways! Creating the best environment for reviewing,
selecting and publishing poems and short stories, keeps us
on our toes.
Through three publications, the Anthology
of Poetry, Inc. recognizes the best poems and short stories
from the multitude of works submitted. Our first publication,
Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans®, is now
entering its 17th year. An entire generation of students has
grown up with this anthology and several have been published
more than once as they’ve grown in age and experience.
The three Teacher's Selection Anthologies
involve 5th, 8th and 11th grade students and their teachers
in poetry writing that can enhance their core curriculum.
Teachers are the editors for this publication. They select
the three best poems from each grade level to represent their
school. After publication, the school library receives a free
copy of any Teacher's Selection anthology in which their students’
work appears.
In response to educators' requests, we expanded
the scope of writing to include short stories, and launched
the Anthology of Short Stories by Young Americans®
in 2002. Through this newer anthology we recognize student
writers who have an interesting narrative to share. Each of
our publications plays an important role in providing a forum
for the recognition of writing excellence, and each exposes
writers and readers to other young writers.
